The weekend after Paul Ricard I went down to Goodwood with my team mates for the Festival of Speed to drive a very special Bentley and meet a very special hero.
The Bentley in question was the Bentley Continental GT Speed, which is a truly remarkable car. The twin-turbo engine produces exceptional power and drivability and it was incredibly precise up the hill.
I was lucky enough to take a lot of huge Bentley enthusiasts up Lord March’s garden path, including the UK’s number one entrepreneur, Michelle Mone. She was also an ambassador for Bentley over the GFOS weekend and it was fantastic meeting her and she really enjoyed the experience to the full.
Then came the really surreal part of the weekend when Andy (Meyrick) and I met the man, the legend….the doctor himself – Mr Valentino Rossi. He was just as you would imagine him – very friendly, very enthusiastic, a great guy, and hugely charismatic.
What he has achieved in his career is a huge inspiration to me and probably millions more around the world. I started competing on two wheels when I was a kid and I love watching the Moto GP when I can. His battle with Marquez the day before at Assen showed that he has lost none of his extraordinary ability.
Meeting him was a moment I will always treasure, as you can see from the photo!
