June/July catch up with Steven

21/07/2014

The last time you heard from me, both myself and M-Sport Bentley were on the crest of a wave after that great home win at Silverstone. A month later we followed that with another win at Paul Ricard to take the lead in the Blancpain Endurance Series and to really let our competitors know we are title contenders.

The weekend was all a bit different as we raced in to the evening on the Saturday. Qualifying went reasonably well and we lined up 7th but knew that in the race we would come under big pressure, especially from the ART McLarens.

And so it proved. Guy (Smith) and Andy (Meyrick) were again magnificent in the first two hours and Andy handed the car over to me in the lead. Unlike Silverstone though I was the hunted rather than the hunter, as works Toyota LMP driver Nicolas Lapierre put me under serious pressure throughout the final hour.

Having the last stint is often the toughest and I have to say it was probably the hardest race of my life. However, I dug deep and held Lapierre off to claim our #7 Bentley Continental GT’s second win in as many races. Again it felt so sweet taking the chequered flag with the team celebrating on the pitwall.

Again we had proved we can beat anyone and it is a great testament to the team how far we have come since our European debut in April.

Next up. The big one!

I am already on my way to Spa for the Total 24 Hours this weekend.

Obviously this is a very big challenge but we have proved our pace in the sprint races and we carry a lot of confidence in to the weekend ahead at M-Sport Bentley.

We had a good test there a few weeks ago and I also competed in the British GT race weekend before last. I feel really pumped up for it and with points awarded after 6, 12, 18 and 24 Hours it will be crucial in where the title ends up.

Guy (Smith), Andy (Meyrick) and myself will be giving it everything in the Ardennes for Bentley. I know that there will be lots of UK fans cheering us on over there and also watching live on BT Sport. You can also follow my week at Spa by following www.twitter.com/TheStevenKane

New development package arrives!

Just when I thought life couldn’t get better along came our second daughter Phoebe Claire Kane arrived a few days after Paul Ricard. We were both thrilled at the addition to the Kane family.

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their best wishes to my wife Claire and I. Another one and we’ll have a full GT driver line-up!

A different kind of Driving range!

Last week I was at Thruxton spending some time with some of the best female Golfers in the world.

Along with my team mate at M-Sport Bentley, Duncan Tappy (who is a much better Golfer than I am, and actually could have been a pro!) we did some performance driving with Bentley Continental GT’s.

Cheyenne Woods, Carley Booth, Henni Zuel and he legendary Dame Laura Davies were all on hand to sample the cars and we had a great time showing them (and some showing us!) the limits of the Bentley. It was all filmed for a special Sky Sports programme and you can see the day went right here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50JGeU-18fs
